18-27 September 2026
We’re on the look out for talent, artists, community groups and venues to participate
🎨🧩 Be Part of a Giant Community Artwork at Sham Jam Festival! 🧩🎨
We're inviting the whole community to help create something special for this year's Sham Jam Festival.
Together, we'll make around 2,000 small squares of art, messages, doodles and creations, which will be combined into a giant mosaic inspired by a stunning Melksham kingfisher photograph by Linda De Santiz. The finished artwork will be displayed in a shop window on Bank Street, thanks to C.S. Properties.
📅 Main Making Session
🕖 Thursday 24 September, 7pm
📍 Melksham Assembly Hall
Can't make it? You're welcome to create your squares at home and drop them off at the Town Hall before 24 September.
There are also preparation sessions: 📅 Wednesday 16 September, 7pm
📅 Wednesday 23 September, 10am
📍 Town Hall / Assembly Hall
All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring along any art or craft supplies you already have.
Your squares should be: 🟦 4cm x 4cm or 8cm x 8cm
🟩 Mainly blue, green, white or orange
🌿 Inspired by nature or the environment
♻️ Made from materials you already have, using recycled materials where possible
📏 No more than 5mm thick
No artistic experience is needed. Whether you paint, write, collage, doodle or simply add a message, every square will help bring the kingfisher to life.
Many will remember the giant heart of thank-you messages created during COVID using 1,600 squares made remotely. This time, let's create something amazing together, in person, with a drink, a chat and a laugh along the way.
